L’intimité que le peintre français Johan Larnouhet entretient avec ses sujets est certaine. Qu’il s’agisse d’un portrait, d’un paysage, d’une nature morte ou d’une scène de genre, l’artiste puise toujours son inspiration dans son environnement quotidien le plus proche. Il est une palette de motifs et constitue son répertoire de formes pour ses compositions. Si au premier abord son travail s’encre dans le réel, un réel particulièrement familier, le peintre ne souhaite pas pour autant reproduire fidèlement la nature et faire de ce quotidien son sujet principal. « La couleur et la composition sont une manière de mettre à distance ce que j’observe pour jouer picturalement avec » explique l’artiste. Il lui ouvre la voie vers de nouveaux horizons, outrepassant une simple représentation.

There is no doubt about the intimacy that the French painter Johan Larnouhet shares with his subjects. Whether it be a portrait, a landscape, a still life or a genre scene, the artist always draws his inspiration from his immediate everyday surroundings. These form a palette of motifs and constitute his repertoire of forms for his compositions. Whilst at first glance his work is rooted in reality—a particularly familiar reality—the painter does not seek to reproduce nature faithfully or make everyday life his primary subject. “Colour and composition are a way of creating distance from what I observe so that I can play with it pictorially,” explains the artist. This opens up new horizons for him, going beyond mere representation.
